Enterprises

All New South Wales (NSW) enterprises holding unclaimed money (UCM) as at 30 June in any year must lodge the money with us by 31 October of that year.

Accounts with $100 or less are not classed as unclaimed money. However, this $100 limit does not apply to trust money held under the Property Stock and Business Agents Act 2002.

An enterprise includes:

  • a person
  • a partnership
  • an association
  • a society
  • an institution
  • an organisation or other body.

You must keep a copy of the return for 6 years after the lodgement date and make the return available for inspection by us.

Superannuation

All NSW Public Sector Superannuation Funds must transfer unclaimed superannuation benefit to us.

You must lodge a return with us for any unclaimed benefits that have been:

  • held by you up to 30 June by 1 November of that year
  • held by you up to 31 December by 1 May the following year.

You must keep a copy of the return for 5 years after the lodgement date and make the return available for inspection by us.

How do I lodge an unclaimed money return?

All unclaimed money or superannuation benefits returns must be lodged via the online return lodgement facility.

To lodge unclaimed money, follow these steps:

  1. Prepare your data using the Unclaimed Money Return Specifications (PDF). Sample files are available in the Return Specifications and you can download a Return File Template (XLS).

  2. Save your return as a comma delimited .csv or .txt format.

  3. If you do not have a Client ID you will need to register online before lodging your return.

  4. Upload your return using the online return lodgement facility.

  5. Print the Lodgement of Return confirmation form.

  6. To complete lodgement, attach a copy of the confirmation to your cheque for the total amount of the return and send it to us within 7 days.
