Parking space levy

What is the parking space levy?

The parking space levy is a levy on parking spaces in a leviable district. It is payable on any non-residential space used or set aside for a motor vehicle, including:

  • off-street commercial and office parking spaces

  • parking spaces in parking stations

  • marked and unmarked spaces

  • vacant land used for parking motor vehicles.

Rates and leviable districts

The parking space levy applies in two leviable districts. From 1 July 2011, rates for these districts are as follows:

Category 1: City of Sydney and parts of the North Sydney and Milsons Point business districts. The annual levy for liable parking spaces in category 1 districts is $2,100.

Category 2: Bondi Junction, Chatswood, Parramatta, St Leonards. The annual levy for liable parking spaces in category 2 districts is $740.

When is my parking space levy annual return due?

If you own premises on 1 July each year on which there is (or was at any time during the previous financial year) a liable parking space, you must submit an annual return and pay your levy by 1 September.

If you are registered you will receive your parking space levy letter at the end of July each year. It contains instructions on how to complete your annual return online.
