Our results
Our investigations are managed through our compliance program where we:
identify and contact individuals and businesses who may need to register but have not yet done so
use sophisticated data matching techniques to identify if a client has understated their liability
identify recipients of first home benefits who did not meet the eligibility criteria.
Our compliance program for 2010–11 identified over $328 million in additional revenue across all revenue bases. This was achieved through:
Payroll tax
auditing 2,996 registered payroll tax clients which identified $86.3 million in additional payroll tax revenue
contacting over 2,554 employers not registered for payroll tax who our data matching suggested may be liable. Of these, 1,607 were found to be liable. We helped these clients to register and issued assessments for a total of $43.7 million in additional payroll tax revenue.
Land tax
investigating over 20,300 landholders that were either not assessed for land tax or had incorrect exemptions. This resulted in 14,558 new liabilities and identified $137.7 million in additional land tax.
First home benefits
investigating 983 First Home Owner Grant applications, resulting in 303 recipients having to repay the grant and pay penalties to the value of $4.4 million
investigating 560 First Home Plus applications, resulting in 407 duties exemptions or concessions being repaid. The cancellation of these exemptions and concessions resulted in $4.8 million in additional duty, including interest and penalties
auditing 5 financial institutions to ensure compliance with the First Home Owner Grant Deed of Arrangement.
Duties
conducting 1,047 EDR audits which covered 12,694 transactions. 0.9% of these audited transactions were found to be liable, identifying $1.5 million in additional duty
investigating 12,785 transactions across all duties tax bases resulting in 493 additional liabilities being raised and the identification of $36.9 million in additional duty, interest and penalties.
Parking space levy
conducting 135 parking space levy audits identifying $4.2 million in additional parking space levy revenue.
