Not collected by OSR

  • amounts of $100 or less

  • money where the recovery by it's owner is not prevented by law

  • money held by an enterprise that also holds other money for the owner in other accounts

  • money held by an enterprise where the owner wishes to keep the money in the account

  • money belonging to deregistered companies.

Some categories of unclaimed money are payable to other State, Territory and Commonwealth agencies. Unclaimed money held by banks, credit unions, building societies and friendly societies has been payable to the Australian Securities and Investment Commission from the following dates.

  • 1989 - all banks

  • 1999 - credit unions, building and friendly societies.

OSR last received savings account money from:

  • banks in 1988

  • credit unions, building and friendly societies in 1998.

Not held by OSR

Bank account money

OSR does not receive unclaimed money held by banks, building societies, credit unions and friendly societies. In past years, OSR received unclaimed money from the following institutions held in savings accounts last used during the years shown here:

  • all banks (1976 - 1982) (except Commonwealth Bank)

  • State Bank of NSW (1976 - 1986)

  • credit unions, building and friendly societies (1976 - 1991)

  • St George Building Society (1976 - 1985).

Unclaimed superannuation money

From 1 July 2007

OSR only receives unclaimed superannuation benefits from NSW Public Sector Superannuation Funds.

The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) will receive all other unclaimed superannuation benefits.
