Find out the latitude / zone of a town

Use the PPS zone list to locate the major towns and places located within the various zones.

If you are unable to find a location on the list, you can conduct a search with the Geographical Names Board of NSW.

How to conduct a search

  1. Enter the place name and select search.

  2. Select the latitude shown as: "Approx. GDA94 Lat:" (3rd one down)

  3. Write down the latitude for the town

  4. Compare to the latitudes in Zones 2 to 5 above to determine the correct zone.

  • Eg: A search on Bingara = "Approx. GDA94 Lat: -29 51 54"

  • Therefore Bingara is located in Zone 3 as it lies between -29 21 00 south and -30 00 00 south.

(Note: minus sign shown in front indicates south of the equator. The further south the town is the larger the negative figure.)
