Spouse

Who is considered to be a spouse?

A spouse is a person who is either married or a de facto spouse of an applicant. A de facto spouse is a person, who is living with the applicant as a couple on a genuine domestic basis (irrespective of gender).

If my spouse has owned a home previously but I have not, can I still receive the grant?

If your spouse owned residential property prior to 1 July 2000 you would both be ineligible. If the home was purchased on or after 1 July 2000, and your spouse did not live in the home, you may be eligible. You must include your spouse on the application.

If I'm buying a home in my name only, does my spouse have to be included on the application form?

Yes. The criteria apply to both applicant and the applicant's spouse. Your spouse must be included on the application.
