Flexible work arrangements

As an employer we have some of the best and most innovative flexible work arrangements that allow you to balance your work and family commitments.

Flexible hours

Flexible working hours have been designed so you can attend to your family and other personal commitments while meeting your work commitments. Flexible use of your working hours is at the discretion of your manager.

Hours of duty

OSR operates under a system of flexible working hours which requires each person to work 455 contract hours (ie 35 hours per week or 7 hours per day) during a 13 week period (settlement period).

Your working hours should fall between 7 am and 7 pm Monday to Friday; this is called the bandwidth.

Decisions about working hours and patterns of work will be made in conjunction with your manager/supervisor and will take into account:

  • the business hours of OSR, ie:

  • - 8.30 am to 4.30 pm for counter services

  • - 8 am to 5 pm for queue telephone inquiries.

  • the need for an appropriate level of client services to be provided and maintained based on:

  • - the requirements of the particular work unit, section or team

  • - the organisational requirements of OSR

  • - the seasonal peaks of OSR

  • - personal commitments and needs of the staff members.

Within these parameters, you may negotiate for time away from work to manage your family or personal commitments.

Lunch breaks

You are required to take a lunch break of a minimum of 30 minutes and a maximum of 2 hours and 30 minutes. This break cannot to be taken in the first or last hour of core time.

You should agree with your supervisor what is generally the most convenient time for you to take a lunch break. If you are planning to take a long lunch break, check with your supervisor to make sure that the work of your section will not be affected.

Flexi-leave

All staff are eligible to take up to 6 days flexi-leave in any settlement period by mutual agreement and having regard to the principles and spirit of the flexible working hours arrangements.

  • All staff may elect to take up to 6 consecutive flex days in a settlement period.

  • Back-to-back flex days across settlement periods are permitted.

  • Flexi-leave may be taken as either a half day or a full day and may be combined with any other approved leave.

Other flexible work options include:

  • part-time hours

  • career break

  • job sharing.
