Apply for a career with OSR

Step 1: Your application for the job

Submitting your job application is the first stage in the selection process. Your application is one of the primary sources of information used to assess your suitability for the position; the quality of your application is critical to your success.

Your claim for the position

A claim for the position is your response to the selection criteria. Selection Criteria can be found in the job advertisement and are a mandatory part of your application. Your claim for the position should explain how and why you meet each selection criteria and should include examples of your skills, knowledge and work experience that are relevant to each criterion.

If you do not submit a claim for the position as part of your application, the selection committee may not be able to accurately assess your suitability for the position and therefore not progress to the interview stage of the process. If you have any questions about selection criteria you can call the contact officer listed in the advertisement who can provide further explanation of how to address selection criteria.

Your resume

Your resume should detail your work history and the main responsibilities and achievements in each position you have held. It should also include:

  • your educational qualifications

  • training and other activities - such as work place projects - you have completed which will assist your claim for the position

  • any certificates of competency, academic or other qualifications (do not include the original documents).

Referees

You will need to provide the name and telephone numbers of two referees who can be contacted and who can speak in support of your application.

Your referees should be able to provide information about your skills, knowledge and/or recent work experience, as these relate to the requirements of the position. You should advise your referees that you are applying for a position and that they may be called on to provide a written report when requested by the convenor.
